Marie's Candies Named Chamber Business of the Month
The Logan County Area Chamber of Commerce recognized Marie's Candies as March's Business/Entrepreneur of the Month.
Marie's is a family-owned company founded 58 years ago that sells premium chocolates.
Winfred King was a young hardworking Ohio farmer who was struck with polio in 1941. After being confined to a wheelchair, friends and family started helping out as much as they could. To show their gratitude and appreciation, Winfred and his wife, Marie, gave gifts of homemade candies to those who reached out. Marie's went from a loving gesture in a country kitchen to opening their doors as a successful company in 1956.
After the death of his father, Jay King, the second son, of Winfred and Marie, and his wife Kathy, took ownership in 1977. Jay and Kathy have been joined by two of their three children, Shannon and Rebecca, extending the family owned business into the third generation. The high quality ingredients and caring attention to customers' interest keep the business thriving today.
Marie's Candies offers free samples, which has been a successful marketing strategy for many years. Marie's chocolates have a shelf life of three months, so don't be afraid to shop early for your special occasion. Marie's has been a long standing member of the chamber because it helps them stay plugged into community events, and they believe it to be a great value.
Marie's Candies is located on Route 68 on the north side of West Liberty. The company has 35 employees.
